NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

Nutrition and Dietetics is the science or study of food substances, their composition, effects on health and disease, especially of human beings. The course introduces the role of food and diet in management of patients.

The Nutrition and Dietetics curriculum was developed in line with the Nyahururu Medical Training College curriculum development policy to train a first-level Nutritionist who is proficient in clinical and community nutrition. It has also taken into consideration the context of the learner, the setting and the knowledge, skills and the attitude required of a professional Nutrition practitioner within the legal framework set out by the Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Institute (KNDI).

It introduces the learner to reflective practice as a framework to encourage critical thinking during the program, and provide cognitive skills to equip the professional Nutritionist to transfer knowledge and skills between one context and another and provide a model for life-long learning. It is a learner centered curriculum which also takes into account the individual learning styles.
