Community health is a discipline that caters for the wellbeing of the members of the community, the problems affecting their health and the totality of the health care provided for the community. Health care is shaped around the life and patterns of the whole population in order to serve the real and felt needs.
This course equips the leaner with the knowledge to identify problems in the community, develop skills and attitudes to assist the individual, family and community take appropriate action on their own health.
In the advent of Universal Health Coverage, the role of community health workers will become more entrenched as the key personnel promoting healthy families through prevention of diseases, promoting healthy lifestyles and referral of patients for curative services.
